This is a reminder regarding our annual Jackson County STEM night event on March 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ripley Elementary School. STEM night is open to all Jackson County School system elementary-age students. We are asking parents to accompany their children during the event. Many of our "exhibitors" will be local companies and community members who will share their knowledge and passion for science, technology, engineering, and math - including representatives from Dow Chemical, Roane Jackson Technical Center, Robotics Teams from both high schools, Constellium, STAR Plastics, WVU Extension Agents, Project Lead the Way, and many others. Update: Our local law enforcement has confirmed that there was NO threat to Jackson County Schools in West Virginia. After further investigation, the threat originated from an individual in Texas talking about similar named schools in our county.
Thank you for your patience regarding this matter. Have a wonderful day.

Good morning. This is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. Around 1:00 a.m. this morning, Jackson County Schools was notified by the State Police and the FBI Fusion center of a possible threat targeting our schools. Jackson County Schools and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department have been working throughout the night to gather information about the threat to take immediate action for today’s classes. We know that the threat found on Twitter was very vague and came from an individual in the Southwest region of the United States. However, regardless of the threat’s credibility, we feel it is necessary to inform our employees and families that we are heightening our standard safety protocols and will have an increased presence of law enforcement officers in our schools today. If information should change, I will contact you immediately.
Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

Good evening. Ripley Elementary School is scheduled to open for students on Monday, August 29. We are waxing the main lobby this weekend, one of the last outstanding items to complete. We have received confirmation from the West Virginia Dept. of Education, and West Virginia DEP that the air quality is good and all disturbed asbestos has been removed. Once again, thank you for your patience on this matter as we strive to ensure a safe learning environment for our students and employees.
Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend.

Good Evening this is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. Unfortunately, my optimism was defeated today as we encountered problems at Ripley Elementary School that will require extra work and supplies required to open the school. In the best interest of having a safe learning environment for all students and staff, Ripley Elementary School will be closed for students the rest of this week. Our maintenance department and other staff have worked tirelessly to prepare the school for opening day and I applaud their effort. However, school safety is our top priority. I truly apologize for this delay and will keep you updated as we near opening day for Ripley Elementary School on Monday, August 29, 2022.

Good Evening. This is Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Jackson County Schools. As most are aware, Ripley Elementary School was severely affected by heavy rainfall on August 10th. Cleaning and restoration crews have worked tirelessly for the past ten days to ensure Ripley Elementary is safe and clean for all students and employees to occupy the building on opening day. I am pleased to announce that we have met our goal. Ripley Elementary will be open for students and employees on August 24th.
Also, you will receive communication on Monday from Ripley Elementary School regarding a time and date parents and students can visit the school on Tuesday.
Thank you, and have a wonderful evening.
